Autobianchi Bianchina Jolly
Italian Classic Cars and Chassis

Italian Classics

Back in 2013/14 we went on a trip to Italy to source cars for a major Warner Brothers film and we found ourselves in Rome, Milan, Bologna, Ancona and elsewhere. It was a fantastic trip in wonderful summer weather and the cars…….., oh the cars!

We were focused on 1950s and 1960s cars and we saw some beauties: the Autobianchi Bianchina in both hardtop and “Trasformabile” style, the ubiquitous but iconic and quirky Fiat 500, the Fiat 600d – an increasingly rare gem of a car, the Fiat Topolino, the Fiat Multipla… name it, we saw it.

We bought a beautiful powder blue Fiat 600d with suicide doors, 2 Fiat 500 Giardiniera in red and white respectively (if we’d found a green one we’d have had a Tricolore) and a gorgeous 1953 Fiat Topolino.

Fast forward 5 years and Quirky Rides has developed good relationships with trusted Italian suppliers of pretty much any classic Italian car. But this isn’t just us acquiring your dream Italian classic in concours condition, although we certainly do that; there’s more.

We’re increasingly involved in supplying rolling chassis for electric conversion, in which case we supply the chassis of your choice, either RHD or LHD, with the interior of your choice carefully bubble-wrapped and stowed inside the carefully detailed rolling chassis ready for EV conversion. Delivery is to pretty much anywhere.

We know there’s a debate around classic EV conversions, i.e. should you or shouldn’t you do it? This is a debate for another day, another blog post. But soon, so watch this space!

Of course, electric conversions/EVs are one thing, the supply of original classic cars and chassis is another. Try finding a decent RHD Fiat 600d in the UK. They’re very rare, we know, we just sold one. Fiat did make some for UK export in the 1960s but the huge majority have rotted into nothing. There are very few 600Ds on UK roads and we’d guess most are Italian domestic imports.

But if you want a RHD Fiat 600D chassis or car, we’ll get you one in whatever condition you want. And not just the Fiat 600D. How about a Fiat Multipla? An original or a replica? RHD or LHD? Just ask.

We mentioned our 1953 Fiat Topolino (the predecessor to the Fiat 500), which we bought for film work, showed at the NEC Classic Car Show and then sold. Well, we miss it! We’re sorely tempted by this excellent restored Topolino chassis which, as our supplier commented: “will never rust again”. But tempted we’ll have to remain as it’s available “as is” for whatever future purpose you intend for it, or as the basis of a Fiat Topolino built to your specification.

Fiat icon Gianni Agnelli had a Fiat 600D “Jolly” designed and made for him to take his family and guests from his villa to his private beach. Now you might not have a villa with a private beach, or maybe you do, but you can have a Fiat 600D Jolly if you want one. Just ask!

Actually, you can have any kind of “Jolly” in any configuration: Autobianchi Bianchina (see above), Fiat 600D, Fiat 500, Fiat Multipla……..

We also have a very rare RHD Fiat 850 Super. When did you last see one of them? We’ll post up some pics of it soon as it’s a joy to behold. But by way of a parting shot, have a look at what’s going on at the HQ of Quirky Rides’ Italian outfit, and get in touch: we’d love to hear from you
